Screwed Server

Damn! I was this close to maintaining my website for a potential year. That’s right… just one more friggin’ month and it would’ve been menandrew.com‘s official anniversary. It’s all my fault. I f&%ked up BIG time!

I didn’t want to buy a new domain name. So to keep it, I purchased a registry transfer of my old Domain Name Server (DNS) to a new reliable service with better server features: 2GB of disk space, 60GB of bandwidth transfer, unlimited MySQL, unlimited sub-domains, and all that other webmaster goodie stuff. Plus, its much cheaper than my previous server. Why pay more when I pay less and get more out of the new one, right?

Yep, I answered too quickly. I got what I wanted but unfortunately, I paid for it with bitter regret. Unfortunately, my entire database including all directories and files from my previous server were completely erased during the transfer. That’s right… webpages, images, scripts, statistics, etc… everything gone!

It’s not like I have to start over again. Luckily, I still have some of the files stored in my computer. I can easily upload images and html templates but some files like Perl & PHP scripts have to be debugged, configured and tested before they can be functionally viewed.

As for blogs I previously hosted from the old server, I’m not exactly sure whether I can restore them in my new database. I’m gon’ have to figure out how to do that. If not, then all the entries and comments posted within the past year will be *poof* gone!

Fortunately, I only hosted two weblogs within my domain. My sister’s and mine (and wifey’s). So May, if you’re readin’ this… I’m gon’ do my best to bring your website M2: MayMay back in action. I promise! That goes for me and wifey too. It’ll definitely be disappointing if I can’t restore all the precious posts we dedicated our time in.
