It feels awesome to be the early bird. My normal work hours were shifted an hour earlier than normal due to school this spring semester and I’m lovin’ it. The office is soooo quiet and peaceful coming in at 7:30 in the morning.

An 8-4 shift has it’s advantages, especially access on things in the office. I’m the first to taste the hazelnut coffee (freshly brewed by the interns), the first to use the urinals in the restroom (haha!), and even the first to flip the lightswitch (ooooh! ). I never thought I’d appreciate these little things but hey… it just feels great.

Plus the absent of any office noise (for now) is relaxing. I am free from the clicking & hissing sounds from the copier, the annoying strokes from the loud keyboard typing, the usual ECG (employee chitchat & gossip) during coffee breaks, the obnoxious constant vulgarity through executive meetings (I’m right next to the damn conference room), etc. and so forth. So for an hour, it’s just me in solitude in serene silence.

So for a few minutes before I begin the workload that awaits me, I get the chance to close my eyes in total peace for a prayer and spend time with God, and also focus on His Word with no distraction. Well, less than hour from now, everyone will be clockin’ in, so I better enjoy this peace & quiet.. Nothing last forever, but tomorrow’s another day.
