I was suppose to write a descriptive essay in my New Media Writing class that evokes and captures the reader’s imagination. This essay was inspired from true events that I actually blogged about late last year.

On my usual long morning commute to work, I would always sleep in the train hoping for a peaceful subway ride without any annoying disturbances. And there I was again today sitting idly in a corner of a crowded train, blasting the music through my earphones and audibly seclude myself from the world. I closed my eyes to temporarily escape, hoping to get away from reality’s cruel grip, who is always punctual to end my random reveries. And just as I expected, on time it came, disguised this time as an enraged fellow, belligerently shouting in the car, or so I thought.

He wasn’t a panhandler or homeless. He was the exact opposite actually. He was dressed in a gray pinstripe suit that complimented his shiny black shoes. He was probably better dressed than anyone else in the car, like a wealthy entrepreneur. But he wasn’t. He was a middle aged man, of African descent, carrying a beat up duffel bag in one hand and a book in the other. Receding atop his head were shades of scattered gray hair bouncing from the light from where he stood.

The man rested right in front of me when he entered the car. He looked weary, probably from fleeting from one car to another. He wasn’t begging for any money or food. He had a mission. He lifted up the book to his face and read aloud, proudly reciting a message with nothing hindering the passion in his soul. He was a moving speaker who did not need a stage or a microphone to share the good news. Tired or not, he squeezed his way through the immovable crowd, speaking vociferously with intensity, despite of his apathetic audience.

There were abrupt giggles and intolerable laughter from the mass as this undignified man simultaneously walked and talked. Right across from him were people ridiculing his odd behavior, assuming him like a crazy lunatic in desperate need of attention. Others smiled and nodded inversely as a sign of disapproval for this man’s mental capacity. The rest were just amused of this "fool" engaged in his own conversation. And as the doors opened at the next stop, he stepped out to transfer to the next car and a sudden burst of mockery filled the air.

I laid back on my seat in revelation of what I just witnessed. Suddenly, there was conviction tapping my shoulders from behind. I remember now. I was once guilty of ignorance like the oblivious crowd. Are we blind? This "fool" insignificant to everyone, did not ask for anything in return, not even for their attention. Yet this "crazy lunatic" had something important to give to the world that scornfully rejected him. There is an apparent presence of irony because we are ignorant fools ourselves living in blissful bigotry. After all, the precious gift he was sharing came from The Holy Bible.

I’m so boooorred here in the first day (night actually) of class here at QCC that I decided to take some mugshots. I’m currently takin’ Web Tech I as part of my New Media major and guess what? No… try again! (lol! I’m talkin’ to myself) Yeh, well, they happen to be using the same iBot webcams I have at home, connected on each workstation in the classroom.

So yeah, I’m back in school after missing out the Fall Semester. I decided to switch from Katharine Gibbs since tuition there is ridiculously overpriced. I’m taking one evening & one Saturday class and the rest are day classes. I had to register late since the transfer process took incredibly long. I feel like I’m falling behind. I’m 23 and still in college. I should be done at my age. *sigh*

OK, enough reflecting on “what could’ve been.” I should be grateful to God that I’m back in school because he granted me what I asked for. And Lord I thank you for answering my prayers and for being forever faithful to us, even if we’re unfaithful to you at times.

Well, it’s past 10pm and class is ending soon… so I’mma be out, go home, eat some late night dinner, rest and then hit the bed. I still have to be at work by 7 tomorrow morning. Sigh, that’s my life for now.

I’m gettin’ out! I’m not coming back this upcoming semester. I’m planning to go to Queensborough instead but I doubt I can register for the Fall Semester, since classes just started for all CUNY colleges today. I’m wasting valuable time and the sad part is that my credits earned in Gibbs might not be acknowledged by any colleges when I transfer. *Sigh*

I had to check as soon as I got there. I still haven’t bought notebooks for this semester neither. And speakin’ of books, I was suppose to have my books & supplies already before the semester started, but hey… guess what? I still don’t have it…

Yep, thankfully I only have one class today because I went straight to the bookstore right after class. I was friggin’ excited too cuz I finally received what I’ve been waiting for since the first time enrolling Katharine Gibbs. It’s a 5.1 megapixel Olympus C-5060 wide zoom camera provided in my tuition which by the way I’m currently paying from my student loan. :-/

Can’t wait next semester when I get my external 20GB hard drive.

How does the identity of the logo depict the company? Well, it’s a hot air balloon company for NYC tourism. My intentions were to create a strongly obvious symbol that can be easily identified by the everyone. So… I incorporated the letter “Z” & “G” and combined them to create an image of a hot air balloon which is then supported by the sillhoutte of the New York City skyline. Creative… or corny? You decide!

Various concepts for my company’s idendity.

On the left are my logo ideas, still in process, created for my upcoming project in my Principles of Computing class. We have to use Adobe Illustrator CS as a mandatory tool for our logo creation. I’m already pretty much familiar with the program but our class is still learning the basics of it. I feel like I’m ahead of everyone else.

I thought this class sucks at the beginning of the semeseter because it sounded too basic from the syllabus, but finally, things are starting to get interesting… especially these coming weeks for our logo project. I was suppose to come up with 8 different concepts and pick just one for an image identity for a “make-believe” company and expand my creativity… and so I did and I came up with all these.

Hmmm, dunno which one really to concentrate on but Imma hafta work my way around with all these images and see which one is suitable for editing as my 1st draft.

Our professor assigned the class our first project initiated from a surrealist game called “exquisite corpse”. It’s a creative game were people compile a collage of words, each of us would write a phrase on a sheet of paper, fold the paper to conceal part of it, and pass it on to the next student for their contribution. Afterwards, the phrases were cut in pieces and then distributed to us. We then have to make our own image from that random metaphoric phrase given to us and apply it as a visual graphic.

I got an eeaaassyy one! Using a powerful Mac G5 computer with the help of Adobe Illustrator CS, I was able to come up with this explicatory image. Created simply in black & white, it pretty much describes itself. Hmmm… do you get the picture? Does it make any sense? It damn should. Check out the question marks and how they used to form a “stick figure” mimicking a clueless gesture. Plus, check out the shapes and repetition of text… which are relevant to the image themselves. Nice eh?!
